EXPERT EVIDENCE KEY TO STRIKING OFF DOCTOR FACING MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

Expert evidence was at the centre of disciplinary action by the medical regulator against a hospital registrar who remains at large on a manslaughter charge.

Vladan Visnjevac was struck off the medical register after a General Medical Council (GMC) Fitness To Practise panel decided that he had used "excessive force" in delivering a baby.

The panel agreed with evidence from expert witness Dr John Hare who said Visnjevac's care was a "cascade of errors... with several sub-standard and unacceptable decisions and actions following one after the other".

The panel ruled that his actions were inappropriate and irresponsible and not of a standard expected of a registered medical practitioner.

Hollie Dinning suffered severe cranial trauma and died after Visnjevac tried four times to extract the baby using forceps.

The obstetric registrar was later arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but failed to answer police bail and is now believed to be in Bosnia.
