MEDICAL EXPERT FACES CHARGES OF DISHONESTY OVER EVIDENCE HE GAVE
A General Medical Council disciplinary hearing into allegations against a doctor from South Tyneside, concerning evidence that he gave at a GMC Fitness To Practice panel hearing last year, has been adjourned.
The charges against Dr James Dibdin centre on allegations that he made statements that were not true while giving evidence. It is further alleged that his conduct while giving evidence in his own defence was misleading and dishonest.
In January last year, Dr Dibdin appeared before a Fitness To Practice panel investigating his conduct as a locum consultant in histopathology and cytology at South Tyneside District Hospital for five months in 2004. It is not known how much of his work resulted in appearances in Court.
The first GMC Panel concluded that Dr Dibdin's work was not impaired and further decided that he should not be issued with a warning as admissions of error had been made and mistakes not repeated.
As part of his evidence to the first GMC Panel, he answered a series of questions about pathology reports and about security measures in place to restrict access to their contents.
These answers, given on oath to the earlier panel, are now said to have been untrue.
The hearing, which was due to finish at the end of October, had only just started to hear evidence, following eight days of legal submissions and is not likely to resume until April next year.
