EXPERT WITNESSES LIKELY TO BE INVOLVED IN NEW LAW ON CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER
Expert witnesses in the majority of technical disciplines are likely to be called on to investigate and give evidence in cases to be brought under a new law on corporate manslaughter.
The measure is aimed at making it easier to prosecute companies accused of negligently causing a death.
Justice Minister Maria Eagle told SEW News that the new law sent out a "very powerful deterrent message" to firms that did not pay full attention to health
and safety.
But trade unions say the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, which became law more than a decade after the Labour government promised the move, does not go far enough.
